MISIF organised a two-day training course on “Metal Deformation and Sheet Metal Working” on 18-19 April 2019 at Alami Garden Hotel, Shah Alam, Selangor.

This training course was supported by the South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI).

The course was conducted by Associate Professor Dr. Nurulakmal bt. Mohd Sharif and Dr. Anasyida bt. Abu Seman from School of Materials & Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Metal forming includes a large group of manufacturing process employed to change the shape of metal work pieces. Some forming processes stretch the metal, while others bend the metal and still others shear the metal. To be successfully formed, there also need to be consideration given to the properties of the metal, desirable of which includes low yield strength and high ductility. This course was designed to help the operational employees to better appreciate the material and processes they are working with. A total of 14 participants attended the course from various steel related companies.
