Training Course on Corrosion and Coating

INTRODUCTION

Carbon steel flat products are widely used in the building and automotive industries, in mechanical engineering and in consumer goods. Except for mechanical engineering, the steel is usually protected against corrosions by zinc or zinc based coating or by aluminization.

This course is designed to provide participants with the basics for understanding the fundamentals of corrosion and coating. The participant should be able to recognize the various forms of corrosion, what has caused the corrosion and be able to identify the best method to control corrosion.

COURSE CONTENTS

1. CORROSION OF METAL

* Introduction;

* Corrosion of metal and electrochemical considerations;

* The standards EMF series, influence of concentration and temperature on cell potential;

* The Galvanic series;

* Corrosion rates and prediction of corrosion rates;

* Passivity, environmental effects;

* Forms of corrosion;

* Corrosion prevention (Cathodic protection, principle, design and inspection)

2. COATINGS

* Surface Engineering – A conspectus, definition and concept, scope and applications;

* Introduction to electroplating and anodizing;

* Hot dip galvanizing;

* Corrosion resistant paint;

* The wear behaviour of chemical vapour deposition CVD and physical vapour deposition PVD coated tools;

* Surface coating for gas turbine.

Training Course on Metal Forming and Sheet Metal Working

INTRODUCTION

Metal forming includes a large group of manufacturing process employed to change the shape of metal work pieces. Some forming processes stretch the metal, while others bend the metal and still others shear the metal. To be successfully formed, there also needs to be consideration given to the properties of the metal, desirable of which includes low yield strength and high ductility.

For the many companies involved in the engineering, fabrication, pipe-making and also service centres, MISIF is introducing this course to help the operational employees to better appreciate the material and processes they are working with.

COURSE CONTENTS

Day 1: Bulk Metal Deformation
- Fundamental of metal forming process; hot and cold working, recrystallization and growth
- Friction and lubrication in metal forming
- Rolling operation; principal and related defects
- Forging operation
- Extrusion and wire drawing

Day 2: Sheet Metal Forming Process
- Sheet metal characteristics
- Test method for formability of sheet metals
- Stamping of sheet metal
- Shearing and cutting
- Bending operations
- Bending and forming of tubes

-
Selection and use of lubrications in forming of sheet metal
-Introduction to deep drawing, stretch forming, spinning, rubber-pad forming, roll forming, explosive forming, and electromagnetic forming.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

* Heat Treaters, Metallurgists, Toolmakers, Design and Materials Engineers, Toolmaking Engineers. etc.

* Senior managers who need a refresher course on metal forming processes.
